Wheatley's trichrome staining for the search for protozoa in faecal samples arises from the Gomori staining for histological preparations, with appropriate modifications. It is a rapid, simple method that allows to obtain well-colored smears in which intestinal protozoa, cells, yeasts, and artifacts are distinguishable, and represents a permanent document for subsequent microscopic checks.
