Periodic acid
Acqueous solution Periodic acid 1%-based used as acid treatment before Schiff Reactive within P.A.S. staining. Periodic acid used in combination with Schiff reactive for aldehydes detection. P.A.S. staining (Schiff Periodic Acid) detects the presence of glycogne and glycoproteins. Many tissues such as connective tissue, cartilage, bone tissue, mucous glands and cells, kidney structures, basophil cells of hypophysis and colloid substance of thyroid can result P.A.S. positive.
