The teacher: Dr. Antonella Savio
I have been working as a histopathologist for over 30 years in five different hospitals in Italy and UK.
My work experience started, as a junior Histopathologist, in a very small Unit of Cytopathology and Histopathology within a Clinical Pathology Department. My first task was the de-novo organisation of a small histopathology laboratory in a dedicated empty space.

I was at that time the only histopathologists with only two scientists and a part-time secretary. All of us with very limited experience.
This task allowed me to approach most technical issues, centered around quality and safety in a laboratory, and to learn much about how to cooperate effectively with the laboratory scientists in all my posts thereafter.
I strongly believe in the power of team work within a department to provide the best possible timely diagnostic report. And beyond, to guarantee the optimal management for each patient with muldisciplinary discussion.

My main research interests focus on the relationships between neoplasms/chronic diseases and infectious agents.
Cancer prevention/early diagnosis is also one of my favoured topics, including screening projects, identification of genetic predisposition and vaccination against oncogenic agents.
My work experience includes three different specialist hospitals in London and I am currently a Histopathology Consultant at the Royal Marsden Oncology Hospital in Chelsea. The hospital: The Royal Marsden www.royalmarsden.nhs.uk
